Round Lake area rallies around struggling family

Below is the sotry from the Daily Herald:

Round Lake area rallies around struggling family

Yellow and purple balloons marked the entrance to Round Lake Beach’s Cultural and Civic Center Sunday as more than 500 people teamed up for Tepperfest, a large fundraising effort to help a struggling Round Lake Beach family.

As the Round Lake Area Community Band played patriotic music, people gathered around the raffle and silent auction tables consisting of watercolor paintings, autographed sports memorabilia, and baskets of kitchenware and scrapbooking items, the proceeds of which would help the Tepper family, who recently just lost wife and mother, Debbi Tepper, and are facing foreclosure on their home.

On May 29th, Tepper died leaving behind her husband, George Tepper, who is currently in need of a second kidney transplant. The couple has two children, a 12-year-old son Brandon Tepper and 23-year-old daughter Jamie Cieplinski.

Debbie Tepper was diagnosed with an unexplained illness that attacked her body to the point of being paralyzed. Her condition worsened and she was eventually put on life support. Tepper passed away on the same day the family learned they were facing foreclosure on their home.

“She was very neighborhood oriented, and knew many people in the community,” said her husband, George Tepper. “She would help out neighbors, their kids, anyone who needed her. Other people always came first.”

For all the time Tepper gave to her community and neighbors, they gave back to both her and her family Sunday at Tepperfest. After 3 weeks of passing our fliers, a group of neighbors called the Team Up for the Teppers organization sent out e-mails, wrote national blogs and went door-to-door to promote the fundraiser. The neighborhood organization has already raised $35,000 toward their goal of $200,000 for saving their house.

“Many of the neighbors have been working mornings, afternoons and nights to get Tepperfest going,” said Lori Koons, Tepperfest event coordinator. “We are a determined group taking a stand for this family who has this tragedy come upon them. We are not giving up until we have accomplished our goal.”

At Tepperfest, there was live entertainment from the Wynd Gypsies and local band Aaron House, canine demonstrations by the Round Lake Police Department, kids’ games, complimentary drinks from Starbucks and food from Mitch’s Chicago Style Grill.

Additional fundraisers for the Tepper family are planned July 18 at Mitch’s Chicago Style Grill, Aug. 1-7 at Uno’s Chicago Grill in Gurnee, and Aug. 26 at Sammies in Round Lake Beach. For more information visit debbitepper.com

“I don’t know how to say thank you enough to all of the people that made it for the fundraiser,” said Jamie Cieplinski. “My mom always did things for other people and it’s nice to know people remembered her kindness and are helping our family through this.”

THROUGH A TERRIBLE LOSS TRUE GOODNESS IS FOUND ALONG THE WAY…

As we were saying our very tearful goodbye’s and placing our beloved Debbi into Gods loving arms—thoughts were already underway how to help a wonderful family very much in need.

A heartbroken family can not possibly say enough “thank-you’s” for all the deep care and concern all of you have shown.   Please know we are so grateful  for EVERYBODY’S  LOVE  AND SUPPORT during this terrible time of trying to cope without our beloved Debbi.

The words you spoke of her were so warm and heartfelt.  I am so VERY PROUD to be her sister.

In closing, THANK-YOU to everybody involved, no matter how  big or small  in helping a very loving family with so much to deal with.

GOD SPEED my BEAUTIFUL SISTER AND BEST FRIEND–
I LOVE YOU SO VERY MUCH AND MISS YOU TERRIBLY.

Sheri

Thank You from Debbi’s Brother

My name is Robert Saey, I am Debbi’s brother from Ft. Lauderdale.

I have obviously been following all of the internet and website articles on a daily basis and have not made a comment as of yet; however, I cannot hold back any longer. I am just so emotionally overwhelmed by what has been going on in support of Jamie, Brandon & George. It’s hard for me to fathom the outpouring of genuine concern and support for the Teppers, who for most of you are perfect strangers. The food vendors, entertainment as well as the games provided at Tepperfest was phenomenal and much appreciated by our family.

Every time I read the articles and learn what everyone has done, and has been doing over the past month or so, I sob, not only for the untimely loss of my sister, but for the outstanding people who have taken their time out in helping my niece, nephew and brother-in-law. I am so taken by this, that my words could never express the heartfelt emotions of gratitude that I have for each and every one of you. No need to mention names, because every single person, no matter how small they may have felt their contribution was, has made memorable difference in their recently saddened lives. A dollar here and there will add up to hundreds and even thousands, but money is not the only factor here. There are just so many people who have given their support in so many other ways too, and that counts big time! The kids in the neighborhood deserve recognition too. The fundraising from the magnetic picture frames, babysitting, car washes etc. Each and every effort, whether it’s washing George’s clothes, cutting the lawn or just being there for Brandon & Jamie, I just want to thank every one of you, and I mean EVERYONE, who in their own way, has touched their lives in a positive way.

My sister will never come back to earth, but I am very sure that if she is watching, she would not surprised by the generous outpouring of support by the unbelievable people in her neighborhood as well as the generous people from the surrounding areas. I also know that my sister would have been there to do whatever she was able to do for you too if needed…that was just Debbi’s nature.

Again, I want to thank each and every one of you for your individual and group efforts, from very deep in my heart!

Sincerely,
Robert Saey
